In any kind of exchange, be it traffic, link, banner, etc… there is always an exchange ratio. For instance, if you’re using a traffic exchange it is likely that your website will be shown to one person for every 2 or 3 websites you view. That would mean that there is a 2:1 or 3:1 exchange ratio.
The first number is what you must do, the second number is what you get. For instance, some banner exchanges have a 3:2 exchange ratio. This means, that for every three banners you show, yours is shown twice.
Why do we need an exchange ratio?
Why can’t we just get a 1:1 exchange all the time?
Well, it’s never that simple. In order to provide the best service possible, most exchanges NEED to make sure that you actually earn less than 1:1 ratio. In fact, I am always VERY skeptical towards exchanges with a 1:1 ratio… because it usually means it isn’t going to last. It’s very difficult to support an exchange like that, especially if there are bonuses on top of such a high exchange ratio. Here are some common reasons an exchange might have an uneven exchange ratio:
- To reward those who surf/earn credits more or more often.
- To reward people for referring others.
- To reward people for the credits earned by their downlines.
- To reward people randomly for contests/games/prizes/etc…
- To be able to offer better exchange ratios to paid members.
- To ensure that they can actually deliver on the exchange as promised.
The last point is very important. If an exchange has people earning more than they can provide, then they’ve got a big problem. Having lower exchange ratios allows them to actually deliver the traffic they promise to. This is why it is a good idea to be very skeptical of any service that offers a 1:1 ratio for free members.
