Safelists have a enormous amount of potential to build traffic to whatever you’re attempting to advertise. However there are several things about safelists that pretty much guarantees that they’re not for everyone.
The Pitfalls of Safelists
1. You will get a TON OF EMAILS! This really should go without saying. A safelist is a group of people who want to email a ton of others… so they opt to have emails sent to them in return. This means that there are thousands of people who will be sending you a ton of emails. If you can’t handle this, then a safelist is NOT FOR YOU.
2. Due to the bulk of emails each safelist member receives, it is VERY likely that your email will simply be lost in the shuffle.
Does that mean that Safelists are bad? Useless? A waste of time?
Heck, no! There are ways to deal with both of those issues and they’re very simple:
1. Keep your contact and your list email separate. If your primary email account gets flooded with ad emails, then you’ll get REAL tired of it REAL quick. I would suggest gmail because you get a ton of space and it’s free. Also the ability to search through emails gives you greater power to choose which emails you want to view. You just can’t beat it.
2. Read up on effective ad writing. You want to be able to grab someone’s attention with your emal’s subject line. THEN once they get into the email, they need to be grabbed by the content therein. If they aren’t then they aren’t going to look at what you’re trying to show them. Grab them at every step of the way (email title, email message and page advertised). Every message should be clear, concise and relevant. It should also grab their attention, so make it different, make it sensational, make it stand out from the rest. This is easier said than done, but it can indeed be done.
If you can manage that, then you too can use a safelist effectively. Safelists really do work. They are not all scams. Nor are they a waste of your time. Remember, here at FTW we’re all about using services Smart, not Hard. So long as you use a free service in a deliberate and meaningful manner, you CAN get results from it.

I get my best use of safelists using the credit based ones. I haven’t had much luck using the free advertising that is offered on most safelists.
